An early small and very detailed bronze which Fremiet cast himself from his workshop and foundry at 42 Boulevard du Temple. This Spaniel bronze is especially interesting and rare displaying two patinations. French circa 1850.

A very fine set of silver stag salts by John Samuel Hunt (English, 1785-1865). The beautifully modelled stag is recumbent in a rocky outcrop between two gilt lined giant clam shells. Hunt was the renowned silversmith and nephew of the equally reputed silversmith Paul Storr. Assayed London, 1847, with Queen Victoria’ head certifying payment of duty, and bearing makers mark “JSH”. English, 1847S

The squatting dogs are those from the artist's 'Chienne de Meute avec ses Petits', which was exhibited at the Salon de Paris in 1859. See "Pierre - Jules Mene Catalogue raisonne by Michel Poletti & Alain Richarme. The squatting dogs appear again in the Susse Freres "P. J. Mene and Auguste Cain" catalogue of 1902-1912, in the 'Chienne de Meute avec ses Petits' group and another "Groupe chien au repos". Unsigned, French, circa 1900.
