Humorist watercolour by the famous French canine artist Charles Ferdinand de Condamy (1855 - 1913). A companion work to that of Paul Ernest Boniface de Castellane, Marquis de Castellane (1867-1932). Possibly of Castellane’s friend, Cornelis Theodorus Maria 'Kees' van Dongen (Dutch, 1877 – 1968). Signed bottom right “F de C”. French, circa 1900.

1) Charles Ferdinand de Condamy - He was born in 1847. De Condamy specialised in sporting and animal pictures especially hunting and dogs, but perhaps best known in France as the painter of the ?chasse?. These were usually in watercolour, and sometimes in sets, pairs, fours or sixes. He was born in Paris, and schooled under F?lix Joseph Barias, a miniaturist and porcelain painter. He exhibited very successfully at the Paris Salon from 1878 - 1882. - Other | France
