A rare and fine early French 20th century white oak carved Setter fireplace. The jambs are carved with large Setter heads, above a carved and painted garland of flowers, and the frieze is a carved and painted leaf and berry decoration. Very rare clearly made for a hunting lodge / chateau. French, circa 1910.

A porcelain standing Greyhound with a hare between its legs by Jacob Petit (French, 1796-1865). Signed on the base “JP”. Jacob Petit (French, 1796-1865) was one of the most famous French porcelain manufacturers of the 19th century. He began studying painting at Gros, then left Paris for England which gave him the taste for decorative objects. On his return to France in 1830, he published a book of interior decoration. His greatest interest was though in porcelain. By 1838 he bought Weill Baruch, in Fontainebleau. In 1850, he merged his two factories in Avon, but some years later, in 1862, he retires from Paradise Street Poissonière, transferring its business to one of his workers, Jacquemain.

30 ) A 19th century cast brass and bronze Maltese fireplace fender / chenets , modelled on "Ninette".
A 19th century polished brass and bronze Maltese extendable fireplace fender / chenets. Each end mounted with seated ormolu bronze Maltese dogs. The sculpted dogs are modelled on "Ninette", a work for Pierre-Jacques-Onésyme Bergeret de Grandcourt from the end of the 18th century.

A tall, painted, antique cast iron stick stand with oak twig and leaf decoration and two holders, above a seated Setter. The stand has removable semi-circular drip tray stamped 'C.G.F.' The model was popularised by Coalbrookdal. English.

33 ) 19th century bronze Maltese fire irons / chenets , modelled on "Ninette"
19th century bronze Maltese extendable fire irons / chenets. Each end mounted with seated ormolu bronze Maltese dogs, on plinths with Louis XV decoration of scrolled feet and neoclassical faces, the central one being a sphinx. One dog rests their paw on a ball. The dog sculptures are modelled on the dog "Ninette" for Pierre-Jacques-Onésyme Bergeret de Grandcourt at the end of the 18th century.

A porcelain perfume flacon modelled as a seated Greyhound wearing a cabochon cut 18 carat gold set sapphire collar with lead. The fawn dog looks lovingly at his owner. The base with the seal “HD Esgland” and signed “cl. B”.

A pair of late 19th century bronze and bronze doré hunting / ‘chasse’ triple wall sconces ‘appliques’, the backplate in the form of a boar from head to hoof, with tassel drops. The central sconce arm in the form of a French hunting horn, with the outer sconce arms applied with oak leaf and acorn design. Marked to the reverse “MATIE?”. French, 1895. The 18th century master founder Jean Joseph de Saint-German (French, 1719-1791) cast a similar oak leaf and acorn design, circa 1750, but with boar and deer.

50 ) A pair of English, 18th, bronze Pug candelabra
A pair of English, 18th, bronze Pug candelabra, on rectangular bases. The recumbent Pugs on floral leafy bases, sit beneath a stylised lion on which the sconces sits, and which are hung cut glass ‘icicle’ drops. The ‘Robert and Gilles Dubois Pont -aux-Choux faience factory copied variants of these designs circa 1765. (See “The T. & T. Collection Porcelain Pugs: A Passion edited by Claire Dumortier and Patrick Habets 2019”). English, circa 1760.
