A pencil drawing of a setter on the scent by Sir Edwin Henry Landseer R.A. (1802-1873). The drawing is illustrated, as a woodblock, ‘‘Fig.27 page 37 “The Works of Sir Edwin Landseer” by W. Comos Monkhouse titled “On the Scent”. That image is slightly cropped, the drawing here complete with some canine studies near the margin. The author refers to the dogs “as a cross between a pointer and setter”. It is though more likely a setter. The reverse bears label for Watling Street Galleries. English 1819. Provenance: - Charles William Mansel Lewis - "The Works of Sir Edwin Landseer RA” by W Cosmo Monkhouse, published in 1879 which was "illustrated by 44 steel engravings and about 200 woodcuts". - Watling Street Galleries, 116 Watling Street East, Towcester, Northamptonshire

A pen and ink drawing of ‘The Exhibition of Hayter's picture of The Trial of Queen Caroline’ by Sir Edwin Landseer R.A. (English, 1802-1873). The 'trial' of Queen Caroline in 1820 was not technically a trial but a parliamentary debate on a bill designed to grant the King a divorce. Sir George Hayter (1792 – 1871) was a notable English painter, specialising in portraits. Landseer had known George and his brother John since childhood and both contributed major historical paintings to the Duke of Bedford’s gallery at Woburn Abbey. Today Sir George’s painting can be seen in the National Portrait Gallery.

Possibly a study for “Jocko” a terrier and hedgehog commissioned for Lieut-Col Peers William, exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1828. The reverse bears label for Watling Street Galleries. Circa 1835 Landseer painted Louisa, Marchinoness of Abercorn (1812-1905) as a ‘cottage girl’ in similar attire. Peasant women were not an unfamiliar subject by Landseer there are several such drawings in The Royal Collection. English, circa 1830. Provenance: - Thomas Agnew and Sons No 24116

Engraving was published 1847 by Henry Graves, by the engraver Samuel Cousins RA (1801-1887), after the oil was titled "Beauty's Bath" painted in 1839 by Sir Edwin Landseer (1802-1873) , for Sir Robert Peel, twice British Prime Minister. This is the artist's proof before letters signed in pencil 'E Landseer' and 'Samuel Cousins' further initialled 'EL' with another indecipherable penciled initial. The painting is of Sir Robert Peels's daughter "Miss Elise (Elizabeth) Peel" cuddling her King Charles Cavalier "Fido". (On her marriage she became The Hon. Mrs Francis Stonor).

“Anxious Moments”, an oil of a seated terrier besides a cowering rabbit by Sir Edwin Henry Landseer R.A. (1802-1873). Thomas Hyde Hills, of 45, Queen Anne Street, Cavendish Square published on the 10th November 1884, a mixed method engraving on chine collé by John Cother Webb (English 1855-1927) of Landseer’s oil. It would appear that this engraving was not made publically available, as annotated in pencil on the recto 'Private Plate / from a Picture painted / by Sir Edwin Landseer / this proof presented to Mrs Woodin[?] / by Thos Mackenzie'. This engraving is in the collection of the British Museum. Titled on the frame “Anxious Moments”. The reverse bears the Christies stamp, ‘XMS 93’. English, circa 1865.

This image of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel 'Dash' is inspired from the 1838 painting by Sir Edwin Landseer RA (1802-1873), titled "Hector, Nero and Dash with the parrot, Lory", commissioned by Queen Victoria which today can be seen in the Royal Collection. Lory in fact belonged to H.R.H The Duchess of Kent. English circa 1870
