Reverse Intaglio Crystal brooch of two horses heads set in gold. Marked to the reverse 'Dorothy Cooksey Marcus Xmas 1909'
The brooch is further stamped 'Marcus & co', the mark of the highly respected New York jewellery firm, Marcus & Company.
Dorothy Cooksey Marcus came to England in 1912, deserting her husband and children claiming her affection were grater for her horses and dogs than her family.
It was interestingly reported in The New York Times of 19th August 1915.

The reverse bears the label “Vicars Brothers Fine Art Dealers Printsellers and Publishers 12 Old Bond Street, London WI†and written in ink “Oil Painting, Donnybrook Fair R. B Davisâ€.
The historic Donnybrook Fair was founded in 1204 by a royal charter of King John. Held in late August to mid-September, the fair became one of Ireland's principal markets. Today's dictionaries define donnybrook as a free-for-all or brawl owing to the "rough merriment" for which the fair came to be known. The fair was abolished in 1868.

A 19th century gold and diamond coaching brooch A very finely worked and well detailed 19th century gold, platinum and 38 old cut matching diamond brooch in the form of a Royal Mail four-in-hand coaching / carriage brooch. The carriage with four wheels, two movable and wearing platinum tyres. The swingle tree acting as a safety clasp. The carriage door is adorned with a heraldic swan. English circa 1890.

19th century, French bronze doré hunting / ‘chasse’ boar French horn wall sconces ‘appliques’ A pair of late 19th century bronze and bronze doré hunting / ‘chasse’ triple wall sconces ‘appliques’, the backplate in the form of a boar from head to hoof, with tassel drops. The central sconce arm in the form of a French hunting horn, with the outer sconce arms applied with oak leaf and acorn design. Marked to the reverse “MATIE?â€. French, 1895.
The 18th century master founder Jean Joseph de Saint-German (French, 1719-1791) cast a similar oak leaf and acorn design, circa 1750, but with boar and deer.
