Travelling circus entertainers was a popular theme for Joseph Stevens. Belgium, 1887.

The image was famously published in print form. Interestingly the French animal painter Jules Gustave Leroy (1856-1921), painted a version of the picture with the title "The Christmas Present". An example exists in the collection of the British Museum following E. E. Leggatt 1919 donation of a full set of the Christmas series to the museum.
