A rare graphite and watercolour with white heightening of Cocker Spaniel in begging pose by Cecil Charles Windsor Aldin RBA (English, 1870-1935). Signed bottom left "Cecil Aldin". A preparatory drawing for a published work or periodical such as The Illustrated London News or The Sketch for whom Aldin illustrated. Note the artist's purposely placed watercolour blob, as the artist's aid on which to focus the dog's gaze. This Cocker Spaniel in light-hearted humorous pose was clearly modelled / inspired by Aldin's Sealyham Terrier neighbour, "Slickerson", when the artist was living in Reading. Aldin famously remarked that "Slickerson" spent most of his upright and begging by the front door until he was let in.

A circa 1900 polychrome terracotta tobacco pot / jar / pot à tabac in the form of a black and white seated Cocker Spaniel, by Bruder Bloch (les fréres Bloch). Marked to the base lettered and numbered “BB 52”. Bruder Bloch Austrian, circa 1900. Bruder Bloch company was specialized, from 1870 to 1910, in the production of decorative vases, tobacco jars or smoking services. The production ended in 1914 with the purchase of its production equipment by Meissen.

Oil on canvas of a recumbent black Cocker Spaniel upon a silk draped chair attendant by his masters riding gloves and crop. The composition of the 1901 is very similar to that of Clarke's contemporary Frederick Hall (English 1860-1948), that of a recumbent Cavalier King Charles Spaniel by his masters gloves. A stunning large reverse intaglio coaching crystal brooch of a head study of a Cocker Spaniel. Mother of pearl backed and fascinatingly set in a 14 carat gold frame depicting the dog’s collar. The crystal was most likely carved by Ernest.M. Pradier (English 1881-1967), but American set. American, circa 1930. Reverse intaglio crystals are commonly and erroneously often called Essex Crystals.
