A oil on canvas of a seated Dandie Dinmont by George Morley (1831-1889). A oil on canvas of a seated Dandie Dinmont by George Morley (1831-1889).
Signed and dated 'G Morley 1854'. Note
In 1832 he exhibited a painting of a Shetland Pony ridden by Princess Victoria, and in 1835 a dappled grey given to the Queen on her birthday, 24th may 1832.
Queen Victoria subsequently commissioned and acquired other works by the artist. In 1840 he exhibited at the RA, 'A favourite, painted by Her Majesty's command' , in 1846, a portrait of five favourite dogs painted for the Queen, and in 1847, a picture of 'Javare' her dwarf pony, and another of the Queen?s four favourite dogs.
With such Royal connections this image is interesting, in that it is the type of Dandie Dinmont so beloved by the Queen and very similar to that of her beloved 'Boz' as portrayed by other court artists such as Sir Edwin Landseer, (1802-1873), and Thomas Musgrove Joy (1812-1866).
