“Le Peintre et L’Animal en France au XIXᵉ Si?cle†by Elisabeth Hardouin-Fugier, illustrates the same Terrier holding a copy of “La République†and the dog is named “Brutusâ€. It was part of a suite that included Cesar, Marquis and Brutus. The dogs caricaturing respectively the Bonapartiste with the eagle on the collar and the newspaper "Le Pays", the Royalist with the fleur-de-lis on the collar and the newspaper "Le Soleil", wearing the Republican Freemason with the triangle on the necklace and the newspaper "La République".
