Bronze of a Japanese Chin by Eugene Lelievre (French, 1856-1945) A bronze a Japanese Chin seated in a begging position by the French Paris Salon gold medal winning sculptor Eugene Lelievre (1856-1945).
Stamped 'E Lelievre'.
French, circa 1900.
The bronze is incorrectly referred to as a Pekingese in the “Dictionnaire Illustré des Sculpteurs Animaliers & Fondeurs de l'Antiquité à Nos Jours“ by Jean-Charles Hachet this is not surprising as this is a very early image for the breed.
He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français where he won the first class medal. His work was foundered by Susse Freres of Paris.
