Oil on canvas of a Bruxellois Griffon by Gaston Noury (French, 1866-1936)
Oil on canvas of a seated Bruxellois Griffon by a fan and bouquet of roses by Gaston Noury (French, 1866-1936).
The painting was gifted to Gaston Noury’s friend Mme ‘Zizi’ Landolff. Noury designed costumes for the Moulin Rouge and Ambassadeurs in the Montmartre district, some of which can be seen in the "Les Collections." Of the Musée Christian Dior. Mme ‘Zizi’ Landolff was also a famous French theatrical costume designer. This gift by the artist to Mme Landolff, is most likely a portrait of her Bruxellois Griffon. Inscribed and signed top right “à ZIZI LANDOLFF, son ami Gaston Noury”.
French, circa 1890
