The picture was exhibited by Trood at the Royal Academy in 1893, no.415, “ "Wait till the clouds roll by"; Basset pups.â€. Then published in many periodicals of the day including the ‘The Westminster Budget’, (London, England), of 19th May 1893.
Examples of the oil were sold at Sotheby’s, London, 13th june 1984, lot 135, and another version of the picture at Christies, King Street, 3 June 1994 lot 119, (Provenance: The artist's sale; The London Hotel, Taunton, 12 December 1899, lot 97).
Perhaps the Trood titled of the picture “Wait Till the Clouds Roll By†was inspired by the parlor piece, with words by J. T. Wood and music by H. J. Fulmer, published in 1894. |
