Scottish Terrier dry-point etching "Gaen Awa" by Marguerite Kirmse (English, 1885 -1954)
A dry-point etching, "Gaen Awa" of a Scottish Terrier sitting on a keyside Marguerite Kirmse (English, 1885 -1954). Published November, 1928. American. In pencil, titled bottom left "Gaen Awa" and signed bottom right "Marguerite Kirmse".
The image further appeared in "Dogs" by the artist, with an introduction by R. T Townsend published in 1930, by the Derrydale Press. Here Kirmse writes "This etching was hard to title because I did not want to give the impression of finality to the parting; for that reason the title "Left Behind" was rejected. I like to believe that the parting is only temporary and that the owner will return before long."
