The oil is clearly inspired by Sir Edwin Landseer RA, (1802-1873) earlier, 1845 Royal Academy exhibit of the King Charles Spaniels (also known as the “The Cavalier’s Hat” /’ “The Cavalier’s Pets”). Circa 1880.
