Griffon Bruxellois etching by Leon Danchin (1887 - 1939)

Rare and early etching of head studies of two Griffon Bruxellois by Leon Danchin (1887-1938). Published by Devambez et Associes the publishing house of 43 boulevard Malesherbes, Paris. Danchin entrusted Edouard Devambez and his partner Georges Weil to publish his work from 1925 to 1932, with the lithographs usually limited from 300 to 400 editions. Once the required number of prints was reached, the copper plate was scratched and discarded. The etching also bears 1920’s label to the reverse for “J Gautier 19 Rue de Sèvres Paris”. A Parisian firm of guilders and framers established in the 19th century. (Gautier was also a director of the ‘Conservatoire des Arts et Métiers’). Signed in pencil by "Leon Danchin" (1887-1938). French, circa 1925.
