A pair of Smooth-haired Fox Terrier / Jack Russell silver salt / pepper condiments.

A remarkable pair of silver sculptures of two Smooth-haired Fox Terriers / Jack Russells, modelled as silver salt / pepper condiments. Dogs with silver guilt interiors and complete with original retailer’s leather box, marked “Yallah” and “Dougu” the interior marked “Leuchars & Son Geffroy Succ Paris”, the base “made in England”. Assayed to each dog’s tail Birmingham 1907, the lids similarly assayed.

“Yallah” is a common expression denoting "come on", "let's get going", and mostly meaning "hurry up" in the Arabic language.

Leuchars & Son, traded from 39 Piccadilly, in 1870 William Leuchars along with his son, also called William, opened a further shop at 2 Rue de la Paix in Paris. The firm won prize medals for dressing cases at the Great Exhibition of 1851, the International Exhibition of 1862, silver at the International Exposition of 1867 in Paris, and gold at the International Exposition of 1878 in Paris. William Jnr. sold the business, including their factory in Sherwood Street to Asprey in 1888 and continued to trade in Piccadilly until 1902.
