The reverse bears gallery label for “Mawson, Swan & Morgan Limited, Picture Frame Makers, Fine Art Dealers and Printsellers, Grainger St. West Newcastle-on-Tyne”.
English, 1918. Aline Ellis was a clay modeller, potter, and animal artist, who studied at the School of Art in Bushey, Hertfordshire, along with other famous animal artists including Lucy Elizabeth Kemp-Welch (English, 1869 – 1958) and Lucy Marguerite Frobisher RCA SWA (English, 1890-1974) and lived and worked at Ebury Lodge, Little Hadham, Hertfordshire. In the late 1940s, Muriel Jervis became the live-in companion of Aline Ellis, who lived in Hertfordshire. Today some of her work her work can be seen in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.
