A Barr Flight & Barr Worcester inkwell set depicting a Spaniel / Setter A Barr Flight & Barr Worcester lidded single inkwell set depicting a recumbent red and white Spaniel / Setter. With marbled veined finish and mercurie oxide gilt decoration, imitating Italian scagliola marble, the inkwell provides for two quills and a central candle. The scagliola finishes were popular by the maker from around 1800 to 1820. The painting of the Spaniel / Setter is possibly by Enoch Doe (English, ca. 1785 - fl. 1851). On the base the hand written script marks read, beneath a crown, “Barr Flight & Barr Worcester manufactured to their majesties Prince of Wales & Royal Familyâ€. This is considered to be the most elaborate of Flight and Barr porcelain marks. Together with the maker’s mark, in the same hand. Then incised ‘173’. English, circa 1815.
