The Rough Collie “Lad”, oil for Albert Payson Terhune (American, 1872-1942) by Marguerite Kirmse (English, 1885-1954)

An oil on canvas of Albert Payson Terhune’s Rough Collie “Lad” on a frozen pond by Marguerite Kirmse (English, 1885-1954). This was famously illustrated in Terhune’s 1929 book “Lad of Sunnybank” published Grosset & Dunlap, New York. Terhune was popular for his novels relating the adventures of his beloved collies and as a breeder of collies at his Sunnybank Kennels. The books were chiefly illustrated by Marguerite Kirmse. Signed bottom right “Marguerite Kirmse”. American, circa 1920.
