A Wurttembergische Metallwarenfabrik, WMF silver plated letter opener of a Setter’s head. Stamped to the reverse in a square “WMF” beneath an Ostrich and “I/O”, being the ‘one gram of deposited silverover one square decimetre’ quality mark of the plating. German, circa 1910.
Wurttembergische Metallwarenfabrik, located in Geislingen, Germany, were renowned for their silversmith and silver plating work, particularly during, the Art Nouveau Period (1890-1910) along with other makers such as Tiffany, Gorham, or Jensen.
