20th century white faïence / terracotta boar tureen by Jean-Paul Gourdon, (French, b. April 1956) A 20th century white faïence / terracotta recumbent boar tureen by Jean-Paul Gourdon, (French, b. April 1956) from Puymiclan, Marmandais. The boar sits on a bed of oak leaves and acorn, boar images around the side. One of the great late 20th animaliers his work is inspired by nature and the 18th century, and today can be seen on the tables of the great French chef Alain Ducasse. In 1997 he was awarded “meilleur ouvrier de France†(“best French craftsmanâ€).
