19th century, French bronze doré hunting / ‘chasse’ boar stag / sanglier cerf wall sconces / ‘appliques’after Jean Joseph de Saint-Germain (French 1719-1791) A pair of late 19th century bronze and bronze doré hunting / ‘chasse’ wall sconces / ‘appliques’, after the éminent 18th century master founder Jean Joseph de Saint-Germain (French, 1719-1791). Both draped oak leaves and acorns, the two arms similarly decorated. One depicts a boar’s / sanglier head, the other a stag / cerf. French, circa 1880. A similar model, also signed by Jean Joseph de Saint-Germain, is reproduced in The book of Hans Ottomeyer et Peter Pröschel, “Vergoldete Bronzenâ€, vol. 1, p. 109, fig. 2.2.5 (fig. 1). The Charlottenburg Castle in Berlin also retains a pair of appliques dated around 1745, signed by Jean Joseph de Saint-Germain, near identical but with the head of Zéphyr.
