Victorian reverse intaglio carriage / coaching / four-in-hand diamond and gold laurel leaf set crystal brooch
A stunning reverse intaglio coaching crystal brooch of a four-in-hand carriage / coaching on the road, followed by a rider. Mother of pearl backed and unusually set in a frame of berried laurel leaves, the symbol of victory, worked in 14 carat gold. The crystal possibly Belgium, circa 1900, the gold setting America, possibly a little later, marked â€œ14KPâ€, 14 karat plumb gold, meaning exactly 14K, no more, no less. Belgium / American, circa 1900. The reverse also bears jewellers mark. Reverse intaglio crystals are commonly and erroneously often called Essex Crystals.
