An oil of a Cairn Terrier seated on a green silk covered table by Baron Von Alfred Erggelet (Austrian, d.1871) The well groomed dog waiting patiently besides his master’ top hat, gloves and stag handled cane. Signed, in red, bottom left "Baron Alfred Erggelet 1864".


The reverse bears a French exhibition label “1RE SECTION Nom Adress 7 Rue de Titre du Carn de F..ble”, next to the pencilled number “325”. Then a further fine art packers label “Maison TOUSSAINT, PARIS 13 Rue de Dragon 13. P.FERRET Neveu successeur, Emballeurs de la Direction des Beaux -Arts”.

Austrian, 1864

Erggelet exhibited in Vienna in 1865 for the Société des Artistes. He was most likely related through marriage to the painter Baroness Helene Paula Von Pausinger Erggelet, (Austrian, 1871-1956), the daughter of Franz Xaver Von Pausinger (Austrian, 1839-1915). Pausinger was an artist and travelling companion to Archducke Rudolph (Austrian, 1858-1889), the Archduke of Austria and Crown Prince of Austria-Hungary from 1858-1889. Alfred Erggelet died in Naples in 1871.

Baroness Helene Paula Von Pausinger Erggelet was the daughter of Franz Xaver Von Pausinger (Austrian, 1839-1915) who was artist and travelling companion to Archducke Rudolph (Austrian, 1858-1889), the Archduke of Austria and Crown Prince of Austria-Hungary from 1858-1889. He is very well known for his forest scenes of buck and deer, highly collectible in Austria and Germany.
