An oil on panel of a Maltese / Bichon type, mother and puppies by Henriette Ronner-Knip (Dutch, 1821 - 1909)
An oil on a mahogany panel by Henriette Ronner-Knip (Dutch, 1821 - 1909), Maltese / Bichon type mother with three puppies gathered on a red cushion before a terracotta pelargonium (geranium) pot. Signed bottom right “Henriette Ronner”. The panel bears label “No 7 Reed” and the frame a label for “Picture Frame Maker Guilder and Mount Cutter George W Keep’ late Shepherd Bros. Engravings and Oil Paintings Cleaned and Restored on my own premise Market Place Nottingham”.
This dog breed was a favourite of the artist’s and appears in many of her paintings, see for example, “Henriette Ronner-Knip (1821-1909)” by Harry J. Kraaij. Dutch, circa 1850.
