A 19th century watercolour of a Welsh Springer Spaniel and black partridge by Charles Edward Britan Snr (English, 1837-1888)

A watercolour on paper of a Welsh Springer Spaniel standing next to a black partridge, possibly on Exmoor, by Charles Edward Britan (English, 1837-1888). Signed bottom right “C.E Brittan”. English, circa 1870

Charles Edward Brittan Senior (1837-1888) was a Cornish artist, who specialised in landscape, wildlife paintings and animal paintings. Little is known of his life. He was born in Truro, and would later move to Plymouth. He is often confused with his son of the same name, who painted moorland scenes and landscapes.
