Early 20th century Meissen boar after Max Esser, (German, 1885 – 1943) A white hard paste boar standing on it’s front legs, designed in 1922. by Max Esser, (German, 1885 – 1943), for the "Reineke Fuchs" centrepiece.. Marked, on underside of the base, in underglaze blue, with the Meissen ‘crossed swords’ and incised with the model number H247. German, circa 1922.
An example can be seen in the Detroit Institute of Arts forming part of the Ruth Nugent Head bequest in memory of her mother, Anna E. Kresge, and her husband, Henry W. Nugent Head
