A silver hunting / chasse jewellery box by renown jeweller and sculptor Louis Armand Rault (French, 1847-1903).


The front is a scene of stag and deer in forest setting, monogrammed bottom left “LR”, the back depicts a boar with with young in woodland setting. The side panel depicts a pair of pheasants and chicks in reed bank setting, monogrammed bottom right “LR”, the other ducks in a reed bank setting, monogrammed bottom right “LR”. The domed hinged lid is decorated with foliage of oak leaves and berries, a lizard and frog. On oak leaf and acorn embellished feet. French,

Louis Armand Rault (1847-1903) was a famed chaser, sculptor and medallist, he was described as "one of the most distinguished chasers of the period, and perhaps the greatest ever" by Henri Vever. He worked for Maison Boucheron for seven years starting at the age of 21. He largely set the foundation for Boucheron’s gold medal victory at the 1900 Exposition Universelle. His designs and artworks were commonly used in different Art Nouveau objects and can still be found in several museums, including Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and The British Museum.
