Very unusual 19th century French cast iron boar vase after Claude Ballin (Paris 1615-1678) enamelled to imitate porphyry and marble

A very unusual 19th century French cast iron boar handled vase, enamelled to imitate porphyry and marble, after Claude Ballin (Paris, 1615-1678), Louis XIV’S goldsmith. The handles cast with Janus heads and boars' masks, the sides with shells, Greek key and oak leaf decoration, on waisted fluted stems and square platform bases.

All original Claude Ballin examples are now lost except for a bronze version from 1665 in the collection of the Château de Versailles, inventory number MR 3415. Copies were made for the fourth Earl of Marquis of Hertford (1800-1867) for his Paris house, Bagatelle in the Parc du Boulogne.

No examples known imitating porphyry and marble.
