Griffon Bruxellois, Belgium, reverse intaglio 18 carat gold set crystal brooch A beautiful large reverse intaglio coaching crystal brooch of a head study of a Griffon Bruxellois. The pampered pet wears a blue silk bow, and it’s collar is adorned with three gold bells. Mother of pearl backed and set in an 18 carat gold ‘Gordion Knot’ style frame. The crystal was most likely carved by a member of the Pradier family, prominent carvers in Belgium at that time. Belgium, circa 1890. Reverse intaglio crystals are commonly and erroneously often called Essex Crystals.
