Griffon Bruxellois, Belgium, reverse intaglio 18 carat gold set crystal brooch
A beautiful large reverse intaglio coaching crystal brooch of a head study of a Griffon Bruxellois. The pampered pet wears a blue silk bow, and itâ€™s collar is adorned with three gold bells. Mother of pearl backed and set in an 18 carat gold â€˜Gordion Knotâ€™ style frame. The crystal was most likely carved by a member of the Pradier family, prominent carvers in Belgium at that time. Belgium, circa 1890.
Reverse intaglio crystals are commonly and erroneously often called Essex Crystals.
