The Afghan "Champion Garrymhor Souriya" by Gladys Davison (English, early 20th century)

A pastel and crayon on buff paper of a standing Afghan Hound "Champion Garrymhor Souriya", by Gladys Davison (English, early 20th century). A famous and well documented Afgan, see, for example, “Hutchinson's Popular and Illustrated Dog Encyclopedia”. Garrymhor Souriya (Ashna Of Ghazni x Alfreda) was whelped 13 July 1931, by the fancier and breeder Mrs Olive Couper. Mrs Couper was simultaneously active in breeding and exhibiting German Shepherd Dogs and Salukis. Two breeds where she was a major founding influence, as well as Afghan hounds. Souriya four grandparents were all born in Afghanistan / India. Titled "Champion Garrymhor Souriya" and signed and dated bottom right “Gladys Davison 1933”.
