Oil on board 'The Meet' by Thomas Frederick Daws RA(English, 1878-1956)

Oil on board of Foxhounds by Thomas Frederick Daws RA(English , 1878-1956) . Signed and dated "F.T Daws /41".

Note how the foreground is dominated by huntsmen on horseback and Foxhounds. The background depicting Indian dignitaries and others suggestive as ambassadors the Commonwealth countries, standing on stone balustrade terrace of a palatial house. Their black limousines parked in the drive, with chauffeurs at hand, awaiting their return to London. An interesting diplomatic meeting when in 1941 Great Britain was deep at war with Germany.

Old label to the reverse reads “Chapman Brothers (Chelsea) Ltd. at 251 King's Road, Chelsea, London SW3”. Chapman Brothers had been established since 1874, and were renown picture restorers, carvers, gilders, and frame makers. They also supplied frames to John Singer Sargent and Sir William Orpen who both took special care in selecting frames for their paintings.
