Gold set reverse intaglio crystal brooch of a Scottish Deerhound.

Gold backed, beaded border and original pin. English, circa 1870 Inspired by the Deerhound paintings by Sir Edwin Landseer RA (1802-1873), such as 'Hafed' and 'Hector' one of Queen Victoria's favourite dogs, and Sir Walter Scott's Maida.


Modelled on Nero, a Scottish Deerhound/Wolfhound , and on of Queen Victoria's favourite dogs, painted by Sir Edwin Landseer RA (1802-1873).

Reverse intaglio crystals are commonly and erroneously often called Essex Crystals.
