The head of the Wasdale Valley is surrounded by some of the highest mountains in England, including Scafell Pike, Great Gable and Lingmell.

Ward Binks is best known for his canine works but retained a studio in Appleby, Westmorland, where he much time in his beloved Lake District and eventually retired.
