An oil on panel of a coach fully laden with passengers and luggage following an incline as it approaches a thatched cottage. by Henry Thomas Alken Snr. (English, 1785 – 1851). The coach wearing the correct Royal Mail livery, black with red door and lower panels, Post Office red wheels, and The Royal Coat of Arms on the door with the name of the town at the end of the coach’s route. The reverse bears ink label “Coaching Scene A Alken Sen. “On Top of The Hill”. English, circa 1815.
