"Boss-eyed Peter" the West Highland Terrier, drawing by Cecil Charles Windsor Aldin RBA (English, 1870-1935) A rare preparatory drawing on ivorine by Cecil Charles Windsor Aldin RBA (English, 1870-1935), of “Boss-eyed Peter” his beloved West Highland Terrier published 1934 by Eyre & Spottiswoode in Aldin’s “Just Among Friends”. Signed and dedicated bottom right “from Cecil Aldin to Adele Astaire”. The reverse bears interesting pencil note “71/3 wide deep etch note artists instruction”. Lady Charles Cavendish Adele Astaire (American, 1896-1981) was Fred Astaire’s famous elder sister, and his partner in a 27-year career in vaudeville and theatre, beginning when he was five and she was eight. English, 1930. The image was illustrated in the Illustrated London News of 25th October 1930, where it was titled “FUNNY FACE” - A WHITE WESTHIGHLAND TERRIER – THE COMMIC LEAD IN ALL GAMES”.
