“On the Scentâ€, a pencil drawing of a setter by Sir Edwin Henry Landseer R.A. (1802-1873) from 1819. A pencil drawing of a setter on the scent by Sir Edwin Henry Landseer R.A. (1802-1873). The drawing is illustrated, as a woodblock, ‘‘Fig.27 page 37 “The Works of Sir Edwin Landseer†by W. Comos Monkhouse titled “On the Scentâ€. That image is slightly cropped, the drawing here complete with some canine studies near the margin. The author refers to the dogs “as a cross between a pointer and setterâ€. It is though more likely a setter. The reverse bears label for Watling Street Galleries. English 1819.
