A pencil drawing of a setter on the scent by Sir Edwin Henry Landseer R.A. (1802-1873). The drawing is illustrated, as a woodblock, ‘‘Fig.27 page 37 “The Works of Sir Edwin Landseer” by W. Comos Monkhouse titled “On the Scent”. That image is slightly cropped, the drawing here complete with some canine studies near the margin. The author refers to the dogs “as a cross between a pointer and setter”. It is though more likely a setter. The reverse bears label for Watling Street Galleries. English 1819.
