A large ‘L’isle Adam’ terracotta of a seated Briard by Henry Pétrilly. Bears plaque “CHIEN BRIARD par Pétrilly (Récompense au Salon)”. It was the artist’s Paris Salons des Artistes Français exhibit, for which he won an award. French, circa 1920.

“Maternité” a bronze of a recumbent Briard with her two playful puppies by Charles Paillet (French, 1871-1937). Titled along the edge “MATERNITE”, then signed by the paw “Ch. Paillet” beneath “Medaille d'or”, and numbered “6550”. French, circa 1900.

A mid 19th century oval oil on panel of a head study of a black Briard by Louis-Joseph Rossy (French, b1817). Framed in its original gilt oval frame. Signed and dated in red bottom right “Rossy 1858” The artist was born in the northern France, in the town of Valenciennes, the Briard would have been familiar to the artist and perhaps a breed he fancied or owned.

Coloured lithograph of a head study of pair of Briards by Leon Danchin (French, 1887-1938). Limited to 300 impressions and published by Devambez et Associ's of 43 boulevard Malesherbes, Paris. Danchin entrusted Edouard Devambez and his partner Georges Weil to publish his work from 1925 to 1932, with the lithographs usually limited from 300 to 400 editions. Signed in pencil "Leon Danchin" and numbered "92/300". Once the required number of prints was reached, the copper plate was scratched and discarded.
