An oil on canvas of a white French Bulldog proudly seated on a cane chair hung with a coat by Nicolas Stanislas-Auguste Vimar (French, 1851-1916). Signed and dated bottom left "A Vimar". This Bulldog appears in another work by the artist which today can be seen in the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Marseille, and is illustrated in "Le Peintre et L'Animal en France au XIXème Siècle" by Elisabeth Hardouin-Fugier, Les Editions de L'Amateur, 2001. The horse wearing bridle, collar,saddle, bellyband all highly decorated with gilt fittings. Signed, in red, bottom left. English, circa 1860.
Albert Clark was regularly commissioned to produce paintings of race horses, shire horse and such carriage horses. As a London equestrian and local to the Islington Agricultural Hall, Albert Clark also had the accolade of producing portraits for the Islington Horse Show prize winners.

This dog breed was a favourite of the artist’s and appears in many of her paintings, see for example, “Henriette Ronner-Knip (1821-1909)†by Harry J. Kraaij. Dutch, circa 1850.

A Bichon by George Lafayette Clough (American, 1824-1901) A Bichon type dog in blue ribbon recumbent on a rug between a table leg and jardinière. To the reverse signed and dated in large script “G. L. Clough 1871â€. The painting was clearly inspired by the work of Henriëtte Ronner-Knip (Dutch, 1821 – 1909), whom the artist perhaps met on his travels to Europe in 1850 when he visited France, Germany, Holland and Italy. A 1950’s Cocker Spaniel bronze from the foundry of Claude Valsuani (1908-1981) A 1950’s head study of a Cocker Spaniel bronze from the foundry of Claude Valsuani. It bears the Valsuani Foundary "Cire Valsuani Perdue" seal. The “Claude Valsuani†seal was synonymous with castings of excellent quality and remarkable patinas. It is further inscribed “FL 59â€, presumed the sculptors initials and the date of the sculpture. We have not been able to determine the artist. All our art books are in London and we are isolating in the Devon countryside.

“Follette†the artist’s Bull Terrier by Louis Eugène Ginain (French, 1818-1886) “Folletteâ€, an oil on canvas of the artist’s much loved Bull Terrier standing in a plain landscape by Louis Eugène Ginain (French , 1818-1886). This pampered Terrier dog wears a red leather collar with gold details. Titled, in gold, top left “Follette†and signed bottom left in red “Eug Ginainâ€. The canvas stretched on a wood frame is stamped "TOILES à PEINDRE & COULEURS FINES MOIRINAT PARIS 184 Faubourg Saint Honoré", famed Parisian art supplier. Ginain painted several images of his beloved Follette, one, a life size image, in 1879 that was to be his farewell to the Paris Salon. This smaller version was painted for M Truhard, see page 65, “Eugène Ginain 1818-1886†by Gustave Vattier, published in 1887. French, circa 1880
